ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Malaysia is proud to play host to the 3rd International Congress on Traditional Medicine and Materia Medica (ICTMMM). This is the first time, the Congress is being held in this region and specifically in Malaysia. The event was held in Iran in the past years. The ICTMMM meetings have become a tradition of gathering of the best of minds in traditional and complementary medicine from all over the world.

Themed “Incorporating Traditional and Complementary medicine into the National Health Care System: Opportunities and Challenge,” the Congress will highlight the growing importance of traditional medicine in the health care delivery system. Some of the topics and highlights of the Congress include traditional and complementary medicine/alternative medicine policy, pharmacology, natural product research, medicinal plants’ biological effect & development, ethnopharmacology, ethnopharmacy ethnobotany and ethnobiology.

The Congress will feature renowned speakers and a keynote address on “Incorporating Modern and Traditional Medicines into the National Healthcare System: Opportunities and Challenges” will be presented by YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Dr Haji Mohd Ismail Merican, Director General of Health, Ministry of Health Malaysia. 500 delegates and speakers worldwide are expected to participate and share their knowledge at this congress.

The international Congress is jointly organised by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Traditional Medicine & Materia Medica Research Centre, I.R. Iran, Shaheed Beheshti Medical Sciences University, Iran and Islamic Organisation for Medical Sciences, Kuwait. The Inter-Islamic Network for Tropical Medicine (INTROM) will be hosting the Congress.
 
OBJECTIVES
  • To highlight and share scientific findings on research and development and practices related to traditional and complementary medicine to professionals, practitioners and consumers
  • To provide a forum for meeting and promote discussion, exploration, formulation of strategies, exchange of ideas and information, experiences, state-of the-art technologies, products and services among experts, researchers, practitioners and health care providers from all over the world
  • To provide and share evidence for policy-making, clinical practice and trades development through research and development in traditional and complementary medicine
  • To strengthen ties, facilitates and enhance networking among experts in the field of traditional and complementary medicine.
  • To provide opportunities for discussion on future collaborative research projects among professionals and other interested individuals and relevant agencies.
